説明

The dataset contains sampling data of 100 pitfalls that were collected weekly in the Meijendel dune area from March 1953 until March 1960. The dataset contains more than 250 beetle species together with a number of mammal species. The research was done by the Animal Ecology and Plant Ecology group of Leiden University. In particular, drs. G.J. de Bruyn throughout the years has made much effort to empty the pitfalls, identify specimens. In addition, he acted as custodian of the specimen collections and archival records until these could be digitized.Pitfalls were placed in groups of three in replicates of the same set of habitats, running along a gradient from open vegetation dominated by low vegetation (<5cm) and bare sand, through to various stands of woods, groves and shrub dominated vegetations. 収集方法

Pitfalls without preservative. Emptied and collected once per week. Samples were stored in 70% alcohol and identified by researchers of the Animal Ecology group from the Leiden University in the years following the sampling program. Locations were recorded as Amersfoort coordinates.

Study Extent March 1953- March 1960
Quality Control After digitization data was checked via row sums and column sums; when all files were digitized we checked the input once more by row and column sums.

Method step description:

  1. Writing down the catches on paper (in the early 1970s), registering the catches in an excel file per species for all 7 years; and checking some parts of the resulting file in a random way.
  2. Writing an R program for getting the data in the right format for GBIF.
  3. Checking some parts of the resulting file in a random way.
