Descrição

This dataset includes observations of insects and other arthropods by Roel van Klink and Corinna Rickert. The data were collected in various ways, including pitfall trapping, light trapping, but above all sweep netting. The taxonomic focus is on plant-and leafhoppers (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha), jumping plant lice (Hemiptera: Psylloidea), ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) and bees (Hymenoptera: Antophila), but many other taxa are also present in the data. Most events are based on unstandardized sweepnet sampling, aimed at finding as many species as possible (aiming at Auchenorrhyncha and Psylloidea), but there data from several biodiversity related  projects are also included, in which sampling was done in a standardized way, using pitfall traps, timed counts and other methods. These projects all have higher level groupings, described as parent events. These usually group all samples taken together in a certain location. The highest level parentEvent is the project-level.

Event (core)

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Cobertura Taxonômica

Most of the observations in this dataset are of insects and other arthropods, but there are some observations of other invertebrates, plants and vertebrates. Most events aimed at collecting or identifying Auchenorrhyncha and psyllids, but some projects aimed at bees or ground beetles. Often, other taxa could also be identified, and are included here.

Acknowledgements

These data were mostly collected and/or identified on our own time.

Several people have provided samples for identification: Mike Jessat (Mauritianum Altenburg), Laura Bosco (University of Bern), Livio Ruzzante & Damaris Siegentaler (University of Bern).

We also acknowledge help with the identifications by Igor Malenovsky (Masaryk University Brno), Herbert Nickel, Lukas Lischer, Berend Aukema, Theodoor Heijerman, J.A. van Erkelens,  John Smit, Menno Reemer, Herbert Winkelmann, and Norbert Voigt

Getting Started

This dataset is probably most useful for occurrences, although all individuals were always enumerated.

Some important things to know for interpretation of the data:

- Information on the sampling effort is given wherever available and applicable.

- The elevation of the sampling event is only given for locations above 500m asl. It represents the minimum and maximum elevation of the sampling location to the best of our present knowledge.

- The coordinate uncertainty (in meters) roughly represents the diameter of an imaginary circle around the coordinates. The whole sample was taken within this area

- An individualCount of '0' in the dataset is to be interpreted as a hard zero. I.e. a particular species, or taxon was looked for, but was not present. This is the case for specific species, and for ecological samples.

- All data collected as part of a larger project have a parentEventID linking them together to a particular site, and a higher level parentEventID linking them to a project.

- Associated taxa are mostly given for plant- and leafhoppers, and refer either to host plant or parasitoids (in particular dryinid wasps)

Propósito The purpose of the dataset is to make species occurrence data available to the public. The data have been collected in various contexts, including ecological experiments and observational studies, but most of the data originate from collection of specimens at various locations. Probably the most valuable information in the dataset is the occurrence of some rarely recorded taxa, and occurrences in rarely sampled locations, such as mountain peaks.
Descrição da manutenção New data will be added approximately yearly.
