Description

This dataset contains the Danish Red List of vascular plants, which assesses the extinction risk of native plant species in Denmark. The assessment has been performed in the period 2010-2022 and follows the IUCN Red List criteria adapted for national use and provides a scientifically grounded basis for conservation policy, biodiversity monitoring, and habitat management. The dataset has been exported from Aarhus Universitet - Den Danske Rødliste - Søg en art, after the selection of vascular plants (Karplanter). It was originally published as: Wind, P., 2019. Vascular plants 2014-2018. In Moeslund, J.E. et al. (eds.): The Danish Red List. Aarhus University, DCE – National Center for Environment and Energy. redlist.au.dk.

Data Records

The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,917 records.

2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

The list includes native and non-native vascular plant species of Denmark.

Study Extent The conservation status of 2916 vascular plants of Denmark was assessed according to the IUCN criteria.

Method step description:

  1. The assessment is carried out by experts of taxonomic groups, who first decide whether a species is relevant to assess. Species which are not relevant are assigned the category NA (Not Assessed).
  2. Relevant species to assess are evaluated based on the IUCN criteria and categories, and the IUCN guidelines for national red list assessment. Additionally, experts used the Manual for Red List Assessment of Danish Species (Moeslund et al. 2020).
  3. Based on these the plant species are assigned either the LC (Least Concern) category or one of the 6 red listed categories: NT (Near Threatened), VU (Vulnerable), EN (Endangered), CR (Critically Endangered), RE (Regionally Extinct), and DD (Data Deficient).
