LBBG_TEXEL - Lesser black-backed gulls (Larus fuscus, Laridae) breeding in Texel (the Netherlands) is a bird tracking dataset published by the University of Amsterdam and the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). It contains animal tracking data for the study LBBG_TEXEL using trackers developed by the University of Amsterdam Bird Tracking System (UvA-BiTS, http://www.uva-bits.nl). The study has been operational since 2008. In total 95 adult individuals of lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus) have been tagged in their breeding area in the Kelderhuispolder on Texel, a Wadden Island in the Netherlands. Data from 4 additionally tagged juveniles are not included. The main goal of the study is to to identify intrinsic and external drivers of movement and the energetic costs of locomotion, from fine scale flight behaviour to seasonal migrations. Data are uploaded from the UvA-BiTS database to Movebank and from there archived on Zenodo (see https://github.com/inbo/bird-tracking). Data collected since 2021 are not publicly available.These data were collected by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). Management of UvA-BiTS field stations and tracker settings was supported by Willem Bouten and Edwin Baaij. Permission to work in the colony was granted by Staatsbosbeheer Texel. The research infrastructure was supported by LifeWatch, SURF Foundation and the Dutch national e-science centre (NLeSC) and carried out on the Dutch national e-infrastructure with the support of SURF Cooperative. The dataset was published with funding from Stichting NLBIF - Netherlands Biodiversity Information Facility.Data have been standardized to Darwin Core using the movepub R package and are subsampled to the first GPS position per hour.
